SpiritDance Hawaii

"People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of...actually feel(ing) the rapture of being alive."
 –J. Cambell

SpiritDance is born out of my deep passion for integrating spiritualty by direct experience through our bodies. It is woven from several major influences beginning with my earliest memories of the sheer pleasure found in playing for hours in nature, and practicing martial arts. Later, I found the perfect marriage of music and movement in the dance halls at ground-zero of the counter-revolution taking place at the time in San Francisco. From that point, my journey became a conscious quest to somehow bridge the peak experiences I’d had with my everyday reality.

I’ve had the good fortune to have come into contact and be supported by many wonderful teachers and mentors in the realms of body, mind and spirit. They include in the movement and energy arts George Leonard (aikido), Anna Halprin (Tamalpa Institute), The Moving Center during the 80s, and more recently Vinn Marti, with whom I was certified in his Soul Motion Leadership Training in 1998. In the areas of psychology and spirituality I am grateful to my teacher Faisal Muqaddam (Diamond Logos), Angeles Arrien (Fourfold Way), and Gay and Katy for their body-centered Conscious Loving Relationship training that has been at the core of my practice since I was certified in 1990.

Ane, my wife of 31 years, and I currently live, swim and play in Hawaii, where I maintain my private practice and have recently presented classes and events at The Studio Maui and Kalani Retreat Center.
