I have been to the Kalani ecstatic dance a couple times. This dance is deejayed and the first time I went their was some live music. I love that the dance floor is packed - you do not lack for fellow dancing bodies to move with. The space is big & screened, with a view of the ocean right across the street and a great dance floor. The back of the space has mats for people to stretch and children to play. Yes, I love that I can bring my husband and daughter to this dance! I usually show up around 11am and around that time someone facilitates a group meditation or movement inspiration - both times I experienced these they were beautiful. I enjoy the freedom this dance offers to move in my own way, self-guided, and to diverse music. The first time I went to Kalani the music tended to be more electronic and fast-paced (which I like but can be intense). The second time their was more of a mix of genres and speeds which I found delightful. I usually find myself leaving a bit early after dancing so hard but that is the beauty of this dance - you can come and go, in and out of your dance, as you need to over a period of three hours every Sunday morning! There is a huge community resource table for sharing and exchanging information. All-in-all if you are looking to dance on the Big Island with a big group of kindred dancing spirits - this is it - go for it!
