Moving Mandala Mondays in September

This weekly practice is an invitation to go a bit deeper into your dance. In this three week session, we explore the ways we move and are moved. We practice opening and closing, shaping and being shaped, dancing and being danced.

Winter Solstice Dance

My daughter often tells me she is afraid of the dark. She questions the shadows outside her bedroom window and the sounds from which she cannot see the source. We talk about the shrub outside her window blowing in the wind, the coqui's singing their songs and the moon and stars which we could not see as easily if it was not dark. And, so, we continue our dance with the dark...

Winter Solstice - the longest night of the year - reminds us of our relationship with the dark.
This dance is an opportunity to intentionally dance in the darkness and all that we have a relationship to with it. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the return of the light.

If you're looking for more dancing, or if you've always wanted to try belly dance, but haven't been able to get to a regular class, this is the event for you!

Layla will be teaching an all-level belly dance workshop. This is a great opportunity to get back into dance if you haven't danced in awhile, or if you are a beginner, this is a good place to start. More advanced students will also be accommodated with variations, so that all levels will be challenged. Come dance, have fun, and take a break from the holiday season madness!

ELEMENTAL - A Multimedia Dance Performance

Celebrating Earth, Air, Fire and Water!

Internationally known dancer and choreographer Lilia Cangemi, joined by many local fellow musicians and dancers, presents an exciting multimedia performance combining modern dance, aerial, contact improvisation, acrobatics, fire dancing, poetry and video of underwater dance accompanied by live and recorded original music.

To honor the Earth element will be Eduardo Rodriguez, now part of the cast of Le Cirque of Soleil Saltimbanco, presenting the International Premiere of the “MALAMBO”, an Argentine folkoric solo dance in which he demonstrates his expertise as a “Zapateador”, executing skilled and virtuoso footwork and showcasing his rhythmic use of the “boleadoras”.

For two hours we are invited to move, dancing our bodies to the beat of the music. In our culture, most of our bodies are primarily used as a tool to support our ever expanding head. At the same time, most of us long to dance. And, I have witnessed and experienced that as we open our bodies to this dance, our life opens up in a way that cannot be imagined.

This danceshop is an opportunity to ground, center and root ourselves in soul. In the dance - using only our body and the beat of the music - we become soul weavers, weaving our body, heart and mind together - from this place of connection we are more available to spirit, our true essence shining bright and in motion.

Chakra Dance Nia Class - South near Volcano

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel, and these "wheels" are spinning vortexes of energy. In our bodes, there are seven chakras from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each chakra is associated with particular musical tones, colors, and functions within the body and with specific life issues and the way we handle them -- both inside ourselves and in our interactions with the world.

I invite you to dance the Chakra Dancer Nia routine, moving the three body weights of the core (pelvis, chest and head) to circulate energy through the chakras. You will dance the chakras, opening, working and energizing each center balancing the energies of each of the seven major chakras.
